Don't get me wrong, give me a mainstream romcom and I will devour it. But when the lead lady (or ladies) rock the show, then move over and let me enjoy the performance!
I will share with you a list of tv series where the women are characterized with what suits them best: Attitude.
Hayat Şarkısı (Turkish)
A lead that is not afraid to play dirty, in fact it's what she does the most (and best).
The story is about two friends who agree to marry their children Melek and Kerim when they reach the age of marriage but without spoiling the story it's Kerim and Hulya (Melek's sister) that end up getting married. He leaves her on the wedding night to go to Germany and pursue his studies.
What happens next has less to do with Romance and more to do with CRAZY PLOTS HULYA MAKES TO GET WHAT SHE WANTS.
SPOILER: expect to fall in love with the friendship between Hulya and Mahir.
2. Las chicas del cable (Spanish)
This series screams sisterhood. In a time where women working wasn't the norm, this series follows the story of 4 women (later 5) working at a cable company, the hardships they encounter and how they overcome everything by learning to rely on themselves and each other.
3. Witch's court (South Korean)
What's legal and what's illegal? They both mean the same to Ma Yi Deum, the protagonist in this legal drama. A lead that doesn't care what you think about her as long as she wins, is given cases related to child sex crimes. You'll see a character development and you'll love her love and hate relationship with her partner.
4. Good girls (USA)
A crime comedy drama that offers a strong performance from its leads. It all starts with 3 mothers robbing a supermarket, what comes afterwards is simply consequences.
5. My mad fat diary (UK)
One of my personal favorites. The story follows Rae, a 16 year old with suicidal thoughts, as she tries to reconnect with society after spending her summer in a psychiatric facility.
I'm sure that Rae will give you strength in the most unexpected ways. You'll gain confidence with her gain of confidence, you'll laugh, you'll cry and you'll cheer her on as she makes friends.
So many things to explore in this wonderful eye opening series, you'll relate to more than one person and you'll find yourself wanting more.
6. Skam (Norway)
Though many more countries have taken on Skam and turned it into their own. To me the original version will forever remain the best one.
Skam has 4 seasons with each one focusing on the daily life of a character. It tackles issues that teenagers usually face.
